Outback Wasabi Vinaigrette Dressing Copycat Recipe

This wasabi vinaigrette recipe is a copycat recipe of the Outback steakhouse wasabi vinaigrette and is super simple but extraordinarily delicious dressing that will uplift any boring salad with the added bite and spice from the wasabi. The total time it takes to make this is 10 minutes and has become my "go to" dressing whenever salad is on the menu. This is such a stupid simple recipe and require no cooking at all, just a simple assembly and mixing of ingredients and its ready to serve

About this recipe:

Wasabi in a salad?
OK so you probably only eat wasabi with your sushi or sashimi, but this salad vinaigrette is my favorite salad dressing that is also great on roasted vegetables or I’ve even dipped my steak in this and I promise you, it works! Actually this vinaigrette is extremely versatile, read on to see how else to serve it with.

The oil
I prefer to use a neutral oil as it doesn’t have much flavor. We rely on the flavors from all the other ingredients and the oil helps to emulsify everything together.

The vinegar
This recipe uses  rice wine vinegar, but you can substitute it with white wine vinegar

Equipment you need

- mixing bowl

- Whisk

Wasabi Vinaigrette Recipe:

Recipe Ingredients

½ cup of grape seed oil (90 grams)
Juice of 3 limes (20 grams) (You can substitute it with lemon juice, half a lemon will suffice)
2 tablespoons of sesame oil (13 grams)
2 tablespoon soy sauce (26 grams)
2 tablespoons of rice wine vinegar (22 grams)
1 teaspoon of grated ginger (8 grams)
2 tablespoons of honey (32 grams)

1 Tablespoon wasabi paste (15 grams)
½ teaspoon of kosher salt (3 grams)
½ teaspoon of black pepper (3 grams)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and whisk
Step 2. Once evenly combined you can drizzle it over your favorite salad. I like to add it to a squeeze bottle and just shake it and drizzle

What to serve it with

- Drizzle dressing over some prewashed baby salad greens and thinly sliced red onions. Simply combine greens with the onions and toss with the dressing

- Drizzle it over a mixed tomato salad
- Create a refreshing Japanese or European cucumber salad by tossing sliced cucumbers with wasabi vinaigrette, sesame seeds, and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro.
- Use it as a dip for your favorite crusty bread
- Drizzle over your favorite roasted vegetables such as red peppers, onions or pumpkin
- Use it as a dressing or marinade for any tuna dishes such as sushi-grade ahi tuna, bigeye tuna, grilled yellowfin tuna or even salmon. It even works as s dressing in your ahi tuna tacos.
- Spread wasabi vinaigrette on toast and top with sliced avocado for a spicy twist on classic avocado toast.
- Drizzle wasabi vinaigrette on wraps or spring rolls filled with fresh vegetables, herbs, and proteins like shrimp or chicken.

- Use it as a marinade freshly prepared tuna steaks or tofu before grilling or roasting. The wasabi flavor can infuse into the protein for added depth. Sear the tuna on a grill pan after it has been marinaded for atleast 30 minutes
- Use as a dressing for cold noodle salads or noodle bowls. It can add a zesty element to dishes with soba noodles, udon, or rice noodles.
- Toss grilled vegetables such as asparagus, zucchini, or bell peppers with wasabi vinaigrette for a unique and flavorful side dish.
- Serve as a dipping sauce for sushi rolls, or sushi grade tuna and salmon sashimi, or poke bowls. Wasabi vinaigrette can enhance the flavors of raw fish and rice.

- Drizzle it over steak pieces or ahi tuna steaks, or pair with your favorite fish steak

Ingredient Substitutions

- Instead of soy sauce you can replace it with tamari sauce, or if you don't mind the extra sweetness, add a bit of teriyaki sauce
- Instead of wasabi use a spicy mustard paste
- Instead of lime juice use one tablespoon rice vinegar
- Instead of honey use maple syrup
- For additional healthy fats use olive oil instead of grapeseed oil.
- For an extra kick add some red pepper flakes or chili powder
- If the wasabi is too spicy for you then reduce it to 1 teaspoon wasabi paste

Storage instructions

- I always keep it in a salad dressing bottle but you could also keep it in an airtight container for up to a month

As you can see this wasabi vinaigrette is extremely versatile that goes beyond salads and most of the ingredients can be purchased from your local grocery stores.
